Bloom London Dry Gin – the Gin for everyone

All great loves have to begin somewhere, and mine began with Bloom London Dry Gin. 10 months ago I was a gin hater not a lover, it tasted like a bottle of floral perfume, and I just could not understand the fuss.

My friends all had their own theories, one in particular was convinced that you went from being a non gin drinker to a gin drinker overnight at a certain age, like a rite of passage, and I couldn’t wait for that life altering moment when I woke up and would suddenly be part of what felt like a very exclusive club of G&T drinkers. But no one suggested that I may have simply been trying the wrong pairings, I was drinking G&Ts as they came on a drinks menu – no bells or whistles and just a standard slice of lemon for garnish – who was I to question that this wasn’t right.

It was my sister who opened my eyes to the big bright world of gin, she suggested I tried something that sounded more like something I wanted to drink, and that was when I discovered Bloom Gin. On a menu it was sold as light and refreshing paired with Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic which again was a new concept to me, and garnished with English strawberries – and to me it was the perfect drink and blew my mind in terms of veering from the “standard”.

Bloom is as beautiful and elegant as the bottle it comes in, it’s the perfect introductory gin for anyone who is wanting to like this spirit. It is light, not overly juniper forward, has citrus hints from the addition of pomelo, as well as chamomile and honeysuckle which I imagine are what softens the gin.

My perfect pairing is with Rose Lemonade and garnished with Blackberries.
